Description
In 1939 year Tarnów had 56.000 citizens. Almost half of them were Jews.
This photo shows bimah placed on a little, modest square near the "Old Town" in Tarnów; it's the only remain of synagogue built there in XVIIth century. The temple was burned with other tarnovian synagogues by the nazi in 1939 year; they placed also ghetto in Tarnów and the first Auschwitz-Birkenau prisoners transport was sent exactly from this beautiful town.
Now, bimah is covered with wooden roof, and in fact it became the lonely, sad monument of the Holocaust in the heart of the town.
